Odd Stuff on eBay Right Now, Teen Demo Info, Michael Jordan, and more.
Hello there -
OK … don’t want to bore you. But got to mention that even though my Michigan State Spartans did not win the NCAA Championship this year, they are still #1 in my book. It was a GREAT season.
By the way, if your eCommerce store sells college team stuff and I am not on your mailing list you’re doing something wrong.
Here are this week’s stories.
1. Where Do Teens Get their Cash Anyway?
Do you sell to teens? If you think about it, you’re really selling to the adults who give them the money. But the teens still are making the choices. Anyway … there are some interesting stats and trends detailed in the “Taking Stock With Teens Survey.” You can see the sites and products that those crazy kids are into these days. And … by the way … “Get Off My Lawn You Hoodlums!”

2. This Is Interesting – eCommerce ETF
A few years back I bought some Shopify stock in my (small) retirement account. It’s done well. So did my teeny-tiny investment in Amazon. Just purchased a few grand worth of shares, but it’s nice to see it grow. We’re big believers in the future of eCommerce going forward, but stock picking is problematic. Well, the financial gurus on Wall Street seem to have recognized that we’re a “segment” and have put together an eCommerce Exchange-Traded Fund (ETF) so you can invest in a basket of eCommerce stocks all at the same time. The symbol is “EMQQ.” We’re not recommending you do or telling you how to invest … merely reporting the news my friend.

3. Why Do I Do Things Like This – Odd Stuff On eBay
Sometimes when I’m up late at night search for interesting eCommerce and Shopify stuff to share with all you folks I come across something bizarre. And if I have to see it, then you do too. So imagine my shock, surprise, and queasiness when I found a company selling cans of “creamed possum” on eBay …. and as I write this, I’m still not sure if it’s a 100% joke or a real product sold with humor. There’s one five-star review and a single one-star review (so much for social proof). But no matter what, I’m pretty sure it’s a “gag.”
4. Well, Better Late Than Never, I Guess
Microsoft is making some noise about building out an eCommerce platform in their Azure Cloud. The article talks about it being potential competition for Shopify, but I think that this is more of a defensive play for Microsoft. They have customers and don’t want to share the eCommerce side of things. I think that the Wizards of Oz in the emerald glass towers at Shopify headquarters are more worried about Amazon and Adobe-Magento.

5. Seriously … If You Haven’t Registered Yet
By now you’ve heard about the “Lead the Pack” online conference we’ve put together, right? If you haven’t, your more clueless than a Kardashian on Jeopardy. But if you HAVE heard about the online conference and have not signed up, then you’re just missing out. And there’s no reason to do that. Hundreds of you have already registered and there is a ton of great content. And you get to pick and choose what you want to see and watch from your computer or cell phone, yadda, yadda, yadda.

Wow … looks like another AWESOME curated email newsletter is done. I’m like the Michael Jordan of eCommerce newsletters. And just think … you can share this newsletter with other folks. You can forward this email and say, “Hey, I know Michael Jordan (of eCommerce)” and they’ll think you’re cool.
Happy Selling,
Zachary
