TaskHusky Curated Newsletter #013

Avoiding Marketing Rip-offs, Lead the Pack, and more.

Heya -

Normally we poke good fun at the weather. But here in the Midwest, we went from 30f and four feet of snow to 50f and rain. All that snow melted in just a few days, creating some real problems. We’re high and dry, but a lot of our neighbors aren’t. If that’s you, stay dry and safe. The high water is supposed to last a few more days.

Here are this week’s top stories.

1. How to NOT Get Ripped Off by a Shopify Marketing Gimmick/Scam

We deal with literally thousands of Shopify websites for development, marketing, and graphics services. We’ve heard all the stories – someone convinces a merchant to spend thousands of dollars for consultation and there just isn’t any payoff. Look … we get it. Marketing is hard and there are no guarantees. But our latest article will tell you how to make sure that you’re not getting ripped off.

2. You’ve signed up for “Lead the Pack,” right?

Speaking of marketing and success, last week we started promoting our free web-conference – Lead the Pack. And … it’s going pretty great so far. We’ve partnered with some of the best Shopify experts and it’s all online. You get to pick and choose the sessions you want to watch. Tons of value, tons of great topics, and tons of great Shopify community interaction.

.

3. So … what’s the deal with Shopify’s new Terms of Service?

You may have noticed a lot of chatter in the Shopify community – perhaps both pro and con – about Shopify’s new Terms of Service. It’s certainly going to impact the way that some folks do business. Our job in this newsletter is to keep you informed, so we’re going to start by pointing out an article from AdWeek so you can read their take on it. As other interesting opinions come online, we’ll share those with you too.

4. Everybody Wants More Conversions!

Most of you are pretty familiar with best practices to streamline your checkout process. But it’s always good to have a quick refresher to keep your head in the game. We found a new article by Irina Linnik at MultiChannelMerchant that serves as a good primer.

.

5. Product Discovery on Instagram

We don’t think that Mark Zuckerberg at Facebook will admit this, but Facebook has stagnated. Actually, we’ve started to suspect that Zuck’s has been secretly replaced by a robot AI while they keep the real Mark 1.0 locked in the basement somewhere. But that’s just us. Back to the point, even though Facebook has gone “ho-hum,” Instagram appears to be still growing. One growth sector in particular in is “product discovery,” which you should probably keep an eye on.

.

What else should we talk about today? Ah! I know … let’s talk about sharing and caring. As in, “share this email with a friend or colleague or you’re naughty.” Go ahead, press the forward button now and get that rush of good feelings that come when you spread love in the world.

Happy Selling,
