Elon Musk of Tesla is Crazy AND Crazy Smart, Jeff Bezos Keeps His Pants on for a Change, Many Happy Returns, and more.

Heya -

So, it seems that Jeff Bezos managed to keep his pants on this week. You know what that means, don’t you? It means it’s a relatively boring week for eCommerce news, that’s what.

But not really. We’re addicted to this stuff. And there are some pretty cool things to talk about even if we ignore Amazon and its morally-challenged CEO altogether.

Here are this week’s stories.

1. Innovation in eCommerce Returns – this might actually be a good idea

This company is starting a kind of “reverse eCommerce.” Happy Returns ha just announced a new returns solution for higher volume areas where customers can simply drop eCommerce return items into a branded, automated kiosk. The company is still in the super-early stages, but we like the idea.

2. Can You Hear Me Now?

A few weeks ago we told you we’ve been monitoring voice marketing.

We’re serious about this … keep an eye on this trend

. It’s not a super-big thing yet, but if you think that all the big tech giants are spending all that R&D money on Alexa, Cortana, and Siri for giggles, you’re mistaken. I think that I will write an entire blog about this in coming weeks myself, but for now, give this article by Forces a read on optimizing for spoken search.

3. While We’re Talking About Voice Search

A few years from now, you’re all going to hear me say “I told you so” on this one. Here is an article on the favorability of Alexa as the current leading platform for voice by small business.

.

4. And Now for Another Crazy Billionaire CEO – Tesla Online

We like to make fun of Elon Musk … because he’s a bit wacky and has a super-funny name. But the guy does have some innovative and interesting ideas. But for those who think that eCommerce is finished disrupting the world, think again. Tesla announced that a full 78% of Tesla Model 3 sales last year were made online – and 82% of buyers never took a test drive. That – my eCommerce friends – is what branding power tastes like in the morning. So Musk is thinking of going fully online.

5. People Are Still Struggling with Images

We work with dozens and dozens of Shopify eCommerce merchants every week and we love every single one of your guys. Seriously! And each week we have to help with the most common issues facing merchants when it comes to both slow page speed and SEO – IMAGES. So here are to refresher links to articles that WILL HELP.

If you need help let us know.

We just checked the newsfeed and Twitter again and it looks like there have been no new reports of naked billionaire CEOs taking inappropriate pictures since we started writing this email. Oh well, maybe next week. But in the meantime, there’s still some interesting stuff to share so forward this email on to your friends and relatives because you believe in quality. It’ll be good for your brand, we promise.

Happy Selling,
