Gary Vee spits out entrepreneurial wisdom, Hollywood comes to Ontario, Private Label Products, and more.
Hello -
How much wood would a woodchuck chuck if a woodchuck sold wood online?
OK, that’s not a real question. But we’ve been scouring the interwebs to find the most valuable eCommerce, marketing, branding, entrepreneurship, and growth info of the week. Finding all the good stuff means wading through a ton of bad stuff in the process, and that just can’t be good for us.
We suffer through the dregs of the internet so you don’t have to. You’re welcome!
Here are our top finds of the week.
1. Shopify Goes Spielberg – Hollywood Comes to Ontario
eCommerce giant – and our personal favorite website platform – Shopify has announced the launch of “Shopify Studios.” We knew something was up when our industry insiders saw Shopify CEO Tobi Lütke striding around the offices wearing a beret and shouting “Cut!” through a megaphone. Turns out that they are going to produce long-form TV and movie content about entrepreneurship. And we just have to respect that level of commitment to content marketing.
2. Gary Vee’s Advice for Pitching Your Business in 2019
If you don’t know who Gary Vaynerchuk is, well … I don’t know what to tell you. The guy is everywhere. He’s an OG Ninja-Monk of 21st Century Marketing. A Hip-Hop Warren Buffet day-trading attention in a hoodie and his own brand of sneakers. He preaches hard work and spits out entrepreneurial wisdom like EMINEM on espresso. Anyway, he recently was interviewed by Forbes on “What Entrepreneurs Should Know Before Pitching in 2019.” Gary’s got game and invests a lot in startups himself, so
if you want investors, he’s someone to listen to.

3. The Best Shopify Themes for Health and Wellness Brands
One of our most popular articles last year was on our favorite theme options for artists and creatives (
). So, we’ve done a follow-up article this week titled,
“The Best Shopify Themes for Health & Wellness eCommerce Brands.”
It’s fun to put those articles together and folks seem to appreciate it.

4. And the eCommerce Oscar Goes To: Google Sites and Shopify
G2 Crowd is a service where online professionals rate technologies that they actually use. The reviews tend to be pretty helpful because G2 vets the reviewers to ensure that the person actually uses the product. Anyway, they just published two lists – the top five website builders and the top five platforms for eCommerce. Google Sites was ranked the top stand-alone site builder and Shopify got top position for eCommerce platforms.

5. When a Little Privacy Is In Order – Selling Private Label Products
It’s super-hard when you’re just starting out, but once you have a flow going a great way to protect your profits is to have products that no one can compete on directly. If the merch has your brand and product name on it, it’s a lot harder to undercut you on price alone. We found a getting-started guide online. It was written in 2017 and has a lot of referral links in it, but there is some good beginning info if you want to investigate having your own private-label products.

If you haven’t shared our emails with someone yet, it probably means that you don’t have any friends … and that makes us sad. We encourage you to have friends and make us un-sad by sending this email to someone you know who’d like it. Our content gets out there, you prove that other people actually like you, and the person you sent it to gets our great content. Everyone wins!
